[Acacia Fellowship] ACACIA IRON CHEF 2/26/10
Hello!
This Friday (2/26) will be a chance to show off your culinary skills and creations! Acacia will be hosting it’s first annual ACACIA Iron Chef competition and YOU are invited to join us! Interested? Read on:
Teams will be divided into Acacia small groups (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). If you are not in a small group, you may (a) join a small group on Friday—just ask me and I will assign you, or (b) meet at Rob’s house between 7-8:30pm and feel free to bring a dish to share–it does NOT have to have the secret ingredient:)!
Friday’s agenda:
7pm–Meet with your Small Group at the locations you decide to cook/prepare at.
8:30pm–All Teams must be back at Rob’s house! (2233 La Mesa Court, Davis, CA) 8:45pm–Taste and Judgment!
9pm–Everyone else can eat and see if they agree with the judges!
Rules for Iron Chef competition:
1) Each team must prepare at least 2 dishes. You may prepare more than that, but 2 is bare minimum. Also, you do NOT have to cook everything in one hour, you may prepare your dishes in advance. However, note that the judges will be tasting your food and it may not be appetizing if you are microwaving a dish before they eat it.
2) Criteria for dishes is based on: (A) Taste, (B)Presentation, (C) Creativity and (D) Use of the secret ingredient.
And now…the moment you’ve been all waiting for: THE SECRET INGREDIENT!!!
The Theme Ingredient is: BANANAS!!! A la cuisine!
To clarify, this is a POTLUCK event as well, so feel free to bring any of your own dishes (that do not contain the theme ingredient).
Teams will only make 2 theme-ingredient dishes that will be judged. Teams are free to make additional dishes do not have to have theme ingredients (but these will not be judged).
I understand there are many food allergies/intolerance, but I don’t want to stifle the culinary creativity of the teams either (as a theme ingredient is challenging already). It’s good to keep them in mind, but please don’t see them as a total hindrance. There will be other potluck dishes that will hopefully bring a good variety to the table.
Thanks!
your chairwoman,
Jenn
